An intimate and refined restaurant, elegantly decorated and curated in every detail, combining style and quality: this, in a word, is Matermatuta, a go-to spot for the most demanding gourmets in Rome. The restaurant’s Mediterranean-inspired menu focuses on product excellence, especially when it comes to the freshest fish from the best suppliers. The offerings include exquisitely crafted dishes made with innovation and creativity. The menu includes a selection of oysters from Mont San Michel, Murgen and Gillardeau; a tasting array of molluscs, crustaceans, tartare, and carpaccio; chitarrina with both raw and cooked purple shrimp and lime; eliche pasta with turnip greens pesto, mussels, and bottarga; gnocchi with beets, clams, squid, and asparagus; cappellacci pasta stuffed with braised beef and black truffle. Second courses not to be missed include tuna in an herb crust with red onion and raspberry compote; monkfish with citrus-infused smoked potato purée; and duck breast caramelized with honey, herbs, and red wine reduction and served with late radicchio. The wine list is curated by the owners themselves, with particular attention to the richest Italian wine-producing areas. Closed Sundays.
