The name of this charming restaurant and wine bar brings to mind the best moment of the day: aperitivo hour, which is in fact the mainstay of Verso Sera (literally “towards evening”). Whether in the elegant interior or at one of the outdoor tables set up in the picturesque piazza, guests are welcome to simply sip a glass of wine, perhaps accompanied by a selection of salumi and cheeses. But that doesn’t mean cooking res don’t burn: plenty of hot dishes are on o er, particularly to please the carnivore set, with cuts of meat coming from the nearby Orelli butcher shop, which just so happens to own the restaurant as well. The menu follows the tradition of home-style Roman cooking, featuring classic recipes such as artichokes alla giudia, fried zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies, pasta amatriciana, gricia, and carbonara, exquisite meatballs in tomato sauce, tripe, and lamb scottadito. Panna cotta with wild berries and caprese cake are highlights of the dessert menu. Wine bottles are displayed on the restaurant’s walls, with little-known but excellent vintages with a great price/ quality ratio.
