All the President’s Dishes

by Danilo Brunetti

History and prestige meet elegance and exquisite cuisine at Rinaldi al Quirinale. Federico Schiaffino tells all.

An elegant yet cozy restaurant located near the Quirinale Palace, Rinaldi is run with passion and professionalism by the eponymous family, boasting over 50 years of experience in fine food and hospitality. Its classic, traditional style, from the wooden tables draped in fine linens to the fresh-cut flowers, evokes a warm ambience, perfect for a relaxing meal. The menu pays homage to the authentic flavors of the Mediterranean, particularly to seafood, with a series of celebrated rice dishes, such as risotto with squid ink; risotto with pistachios, walnuts and smoked cheese; and risotto with gobbetti prawns and truffles. Each dish is crafted with the finest ingredients that the market has to offer and is evidenced by the rich displays of mushrooms and truffles and the water tanks where live lobsters, spider crabs, and king crabs can be selected.

Start your meal with Rinaldi’s signature selection of raw seafood (with carpaccios, tartares, and raw shellfish) or one of the tempting hot fish appetizers. Standout first courses include tagliolini with scorpion fish sauce; spaghetti with sea urchins and mullet roe; and red snapper ravioli with cream of scampi. Among the second courses, don’t miss the sumptuous Catalan-style lobster; the red tuna roast beef with tartare sauce; or the catch of the day prepared however you like it. There are also inviting land dishes such as tagliolini with black truffle and Danish beef fillet with porcini mushrooms. On the dessert menu, the classics triumph: choose traditional tiramisu, panna cotta with berries, or crème brulée. The restaurant’s other points of strength are its wine cellar boasting over 3,500 labels, and the friendly and impeccable service, curated by Antonio Rinaldi himself, and flanked by his sons Stefano and Vincenzo. Reservations recommended.
